Cardston

Cardston is a unique community in southern Alberta. Built with the vision of steadfast pioneers, this culturally diverse town continues to thrive through the spirit and ingenuity of its modern day citizens.

The town was settled in 1877 by Utah territory pioneers who traversed the Macleod-Benton trail to Alberta in one of the last wagon migrations of the nineteenth century. Named after Charles Ora Card, who led the pioneers north, Cardston pays tribute to its founders in a variety of well-preserved historic sites, including the original Card Pioneer Home on Main Street. Cobblestone Manor, built by Belgian immigrant and master carpenter Henry Hoet in 1913, is another extraordinary historic site in town. Open now as a restaurant and bed & breakfast, the interior of the Manor is as glorious as it was a century ago.

A colourful history makes Cardston interesting, but its plethora of modern attractions is what continues to draw visitors from all over the map. Museums, golf courses, theatre, and quick access to stunning national parks on either side of the Canada/U.S. border makes Cardston a must see for any adventuresome traveler.
