Golden sunlight is the backdrop of this pretty prairie city. The sun shines virtually every day here – 320 days a year on average to be exact, and its warm glow is a fitting metaphor; a reflection of the friendly people and brilliant possibilities that Lethbridge is all about.

The past is very much alive here. Historic buildings stand as moments across the city. Lovingly restored, they pay homage to a time when good neighbours and good commerce worked in harmony. Roam around downtown with open eyes for a little while, and you’ll see where the spirit of Lethbridge began.

Beyond the historic sandstone buildings there is a world of outdoor enjoyment lying at your feet. The Oldman River valley winds peacefully through the heart of the city, calling nature lovers on both sides of the coulees to come explore. The valley is home to Fort Whoop Up – an original whiskey trading post, High Level Bridge – the longest and highest operational train bridge of its kind, Helen Schuler Nature Centre, and Indian Battle Park – site of a battle between the Blackfoot and Cree Nations that took place in October 1870. You’ll want to take your time wandering through this expansive stretch of parkland, and it’s easy to make a day of it. Coal Banks Trail offers 30 km of paved meandering, starting at the city’s west side, leading through the entire valley and then up to Henderson Lake and onward to Pavan Park. Don’t be surprised if you meet a deer or two, a few friendly rabbits, the odd porcupine, or a skittish coyote along the way.

From art galleries and museums to a myriad of events, concerts and festivals, there is always something worthwhile to take in. Lethbridge is mid-sized city brimming with big surprises, and central to some of southern Alberta’s very best attractions.
