Fort Macleod

When you’re touring around southern Alberta, a stop in Fort Macleod is virtually guaranteed. Located at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 3, Fort Macleod is at the crossroads of southern Alberta adventure, right in the middle between the majestic Rocky Mountains and the wide open prairie. But its location isn’t the only thing that draws countless visitors in each year. Fort Macleod is a crossroads community in many other intriguing and memorable ways, most notably in its undeniable connection to both the present and the past.

History is preserved here in a way you just don’t see very often. Main Street in Fort Macleod is Alberta’s only provincially designated historic area. Beautifully restored buildings date as far back as 1874, and walking among them is very much a trip into Alberta’s history. Of course the Fort itself is a living testimony to the town’s illustrious past, but Fort Macleod is a progressive place too, where each attraction is an exciting new opportunity.
